About Us

In 2003, a group of representatives from the public school districts, public and private colleges and universities, and civic organizations of Southern Dallas County came together and formalized a vision of collaboration to enhance the educational possibilities in the Southern Dallas area and established the Southern Dallas County Educational Consortium (SDCEC).

The mission of the Consortium is “to meet the educational needs of the communities in Southern Dallas County by fostering cooperation among all levels of education and the businesses, industries, and faith-based communities of the Southern Sector.”

The Consortium is composed of all the independent school districts, colleges, and universities, and the following businesses and organizations: Best Southwest Chambers of Commerce, Friendship West Baptist Church, Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics, International Museum of Cultures, Methodist Health System, TXU Electric Delivery, UPS, and YWCA.

The long-range planning goal for the Consortium is “to develop a plan that unites the communities of Southern Dallas County in a commitment to student success.”

One of the major focuses of the Consortium is Kids’ College. Kids’ College was established in 2005 with the over-arching theme – leadership. Kids’ College is composed of first through fourth grade students from the area school districts. The children involved in the program are children that come from families where they might represent “first in college” for their families, and are not normally recipients of enrichment programs. We concentrate on such areas as diversity, technology for the 21st century, the importance of college, empowerment and character education.

Over 40 children are enrolled in Kids’ College for 2006-07. They meet one Saturday a month during the academic year at various member locations.

We hope you decide to join the SDCEC. The annual membership dues are $250.00.
